| Ovulation Induction & Monitoring |
|
| One of the major causes of female infertility
is either complete absence of or abnormal ovulation. Successful
production of oocytes is influenced by numerous hormones with
very delicate balances that create the woman's normal cycle.
Frequently the production is off balance, resulting in poor
or no ovulation. A more important step to restoring good ovulation
is to attempt to reestablish a balance of hormones through fertility
drugs such as clomiphene citrate (Siphene), HMG (human menopausal
gonadotropin), FSH (follicle stimulating hormone), or hCG (human
chorionic gonadotropin). To maximize the chances for success
it is necessary to measure these hormones through blood tests,
as well as evaluate the growth and development of the follicles
containing eggs by ultrasound assessment. |
|
| Timed Intercourse |
| Opportunities for conception are significantly
increased by timed intercourse to ovulation. This is determined
through hormonal and ultrasound monitoring. Patients with ovulatory
dysfunction are treated with fertility medications. |
